Crime of Passion (Chop-chop Lady in Davao City)

When i first heard the news about this, I couldn't believe it, I was scared, especially beacause it happened here in my city, "Davao City".  I thought it would never happen in real life, how can someone do this to a fellow human?

Maritess Hao, a 39 year old female, who lived in a mid scale subdivision in Talomo was found dead on Christmas Day.  The victims neighbor, Jimmy Quijano, noticed a foul smell coming from the victims house and called 911 and the Scene of the Crime Operatives (Soco).  The crime scene operatives found the victims body chopped to bits inside the bathroom. The suspect, Arvin Casanova, 22 years old, is the victims former live in partner.  Police said that jealousy could be the motive behind the crime, as the victims current boyfriend is returning home from Japan soon. Also found in the crime scene were clothes placed inside a plastic garbage container with traces of human blood and a stainless chopping knife in the kitchen. Authorities are now looking for the suspect who still remains at large.

Snow Day

ST. MARY'S, MD - FEBRUARY 10: An Amish couple ...Image by Getty Images via @daylife

It's not so much of a snow day here in Jacksonville, as only maybe 5 flakes fell, but up north it's one of the worst storms in recent memory.  In my own way I am both sad and happy as I do miss playing in the snow but never in a millions years could I miss driving in it.

Merry Christmas!

I'm very happy because I completed the 9mornings this year, its just feels right, for me its the feeling of satisfaction, not physically but emotionally, when you know you cant have everything you want this Christmas but you don't care, because the reason is not the especial food we serve every christmas, the new clothes we wear every christmas but the reason why we celebrate Christmas, because Jesus our savior is born to save us once again.  Anyway those who don't know what is 9 mornings.  Nine ( 9 ) monings also called "Misa de Gallo" is a Filipino tradition every Christmas a 9 consecutive days of novena mass. So my mother and I completed the 9 mornings this year, hurray were so happy, after 9 days of waking up so early, its finally done!
We celebrate Christmas this year simply, not a lot of foods, We just cook enough for us, my mum cooked a couple of food like Arroz Valenciana its a local version of a spanish recipe called Paella, of course Pancit, Adobo, Kinilaw, and I make the dessert, the ever famous Mango Float, We did not wait for the noche buena, we started our dinner early because we were kinda hungry and so tired to wait for 12 midnight, after dinner our relatives arrive, so we have fun with our relatives, especially when they got drunk and get silly, Oh its my first time to celebrate Christmas without my husband, He is in Jacksonville right now to be with his father, thats the only thing I miss this Christmas, to celebrate it with my dear husband.
Time really flies, now Christmas is here and next week were gonna celebrate New Year again, and  Im not ready yet, I have so many things that needs to be done before the New Year.
I wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Prosperous New Year!!!

Thursday Thunks: Philosophy 101

The TT questions are brought to you by Bud, the color of an Mexican Umbrella Lady and the number 3693.

1. First, an easy one. In 25 words or less, what's your philosophy on life?
My philsophy in life right now is to be always think positive, and that everything happen for a reason.

2. Which country is your spiritual home? Why?
For me it would be the country I was born, Philippines, despite of the negatives that is happening in my country, I can still say theres still a lot of people who is a real christian and catholic, who really do thier duty as son of God.

3. Tell us something about the oldest living member of your family. We mean as opposed to the oldest dead one.
It would be my dad,  he is 55 years old.

4. Tell us something about the youngest member of your family.
Its my brother Glenn, 23 years old, we love him, I think his a good boy.

5. Now we’ll do random. Have you ever had a negative experience at a gym (with other patrons, equipment, trainer) or with the gym themselves?
Yes, with the threadmill, its so hard to keep up with it.

6. If you could go back and change one friendship in your past, who would it have been, and why?
No one, they have different attitudes, but that makes them unique.

7. If you could wish a wish and it be guaranteed to come true (and not to get more wishes), what would it be, and why?
Hmm, it would be hard, well I think it would be to be with my husband this christmas and forever.

8. What were you doing 1 year ago?
I think we were  doing Christmas shopping that time with my husband.

9. Time to belly up to the bar. What drink can I getcha?
I would like to try tequilla lol

10. What's the furthest you've traveled to visit (or vacation with, etc.) a friend?
It would be with my husbands and our friends in north cotabato, its 7 hrs. drive from the city here in Davao  City.

Simbang Gabi (9 mornings) starts today.

Today is the begginning of Simbang Gabi or dawn masses (9 mornings).  It's a nine days masses, this custom lasts for nine days, starting today December 16th and continually daily up to December 24.
My mother and I wake up early to attend the first day of 9 mornings, and so we arrived in the church and was amazed by the decorations of the church, the colorful lights and beautiful christmas lanterns, you can really feel the spirit of Christmas, especially the crowds, theres a lot of people. Its always like this on the first day of 9 mornings, a huge crowd, but you will feel safe because theres  a lot of policeman wandering around to secure the church goers safety.  A lot of people is really looking forward to attend the first misa de gallo (9 mornings) hoping they can complete the whole series of nine dawn mass, we believe overhere once you completed it your wish will be granted.  Even in the homily, the Archbishop who leads the mass said, that we should ask God to guide us so that we can presevere and continue to attend the dawn masses, so our wish will be granted.
Because its so crowded, we end up standing until the end of the mass, But thats find with me, maybe tomorrow  we can get up early and we can finally sit and be comfortable through out the whole mass.
Shortly after the mass, you will see a lot of vendors waiting for the church goers, selling different kinds of native delicacies (kakanin) like bibingka (custrad cake), puto (rice cake), suman (sticky rice), they also served hot tsokolate (hot chocolate drink), tea or coffee.
Simbang Gabi or dawn masses is our tradition every christmas, for me its more like preparing for the coming our Lord Jesus Christ not only physically but spiritualy.

Christmas is just around the corner!

When I glanced at my calendar today I had to do a double take, it's almost Christmas already! It's hard to believe that time can go by so quickly as it seems like just yesterday it was April and my husband was going back to the states.
For me and my family its hard to celebrate christmas this year financially, we had a lot of emergencies happen to us this year, First my nephew got dengue fever, and we (me and my husband) spend a lot of money to pay the hospital bills, but we did not regret doing it,what important for us is the health of our nephew, he is in good health now thanks to God,we love him so much and treated him as our own son. Second is we fix our house which is part of our plan but its a wrong decision we made, because we end up with no money left. As of this moment my  husband is unemployed, but his gonna go back to work on May next year hopefuly, and once he start working again,   we can really start processing my visa application, yes me and my  husband is planning to live in the U.S, but he has to petition me first, which is so hard and the process will take years, not to mention the money you will spend with all the paper work, so im just here thinking and praying that God will hasten the time, so that I could be with my husband again. Its so hard to be away from your loved ones, especially this holiday season. But of course im still excited for christmas, one thing im excited for  is the 9 mornings, we call it Simbang Gabi or Misa de Gallo.
In the Philippines, its our tradition every christmas, to attend the 9 mornings, it is a series of nine dawn masses, the mass starts as early as 3:00 am, and its begins on December 16th and ends of the midnight of the 24th of December, which is the midnight mass.
So this video that im sharing is from John Lennon, Happy Christmas (War is Over), I will never get tired of hearing this song every christmas, its a sad christmas song but the message is very good. Merry Christmas to all of you, wherever you are in the world!

Quake jolts in Mindanao

It was intensity 4 here in Davao where I lived, Mati and Cateel town in Davao Oriental, Intensity 3 in Malita and Malalag (Davao Del Sur) Tagum City and Cagayan De Oro Butuan City and  intensity 2 in General Santos City, Bansalan and Digos City also in Davao Del Sur.

No casulaties were reported, Phivolcs official said the quake's epicenter was at 86 kilometers northeast off the coast of Mati Davao Oriental. It was tectonic in origin and recorded at a depth of 92 kilometers.
The phivolcs classify intensity 5 as a strong earthquake, which means it is generally felt by most people indoors and outdoors.

picture is from 1990 Luzon earthquake

Lets take care, and be ready when theres earthquake, If you are indoor's Drop to the ground; take cover by getting under a sturdy table or other piece of furniture; and Hold on until the shaking stops. If there isn’t a table or desk near you, cover your face and head with your arms and crouch in an inside corner of the building. Stay away from glass, windows, outside doors and walls, and anything that could fall, such as lighting fixtures or furniture. Be aware that the electricity may go out or the sprinkler systems or fire alarms may turn on. and most of all dont forget to pray.

A story in welcoming the Advent season

What's your goal in life? If you get there, will you really be satisfied? Tough questions, right? But isnt that what fulfillment in life is all about?

These are some stories of  famous people:

George Eastman's goal was financial success. He got there too. In cameras shops the word over, you will find the yellow boxes of film made by the Eastman-Kodak  company. You see, George Eastman was a Scandinavian born inventor who had an idea: "You click the shutter and we do the rest." That idea turned rags into riches for Eastman, but reaching his goal didn't satisfy. Eastman lives in a 30-room ,mansion where a magnificent pipe organ was played during meals, but Eastman was far from happy.

One morning he conferred with his business associates, then went to his room and scribbled these words on a piece of paper: "My work is finished. Why wait?" He then took a German Luger automatic and putting it to his head, he pulled the trigger.

If accomplishment in life is your goal, then consider the life of Ernest Hemingway, He is an American author and journalist, A lot of people wish they could write like Hemingway does. Hemingway won the Nobel Prize for literature in 1954. He was famous for his character descriptions in works like A Farewell to Arms, The Old Man and the Sea, and For whom the Bell Tolls.  But in summer of 1961 Hemingway "quite deliberately"  shot himself with his favorite twelve gauge shotgun, put the end of the barrel unto his mouth, pull the trigger and blow out his brain.
Obviously, a person can be tremendously talented and yet be unfulfilled and miserable.

If fame or beauty is your goal in life, consider Marilyn Monroe. On August 5, 1962, newspaper told how this gifted and beautiful woman overdosed on chloral hydrate and nembutal- a drug which stopped her heart. The cause of her death is acute barbiturate poisoning resulting from a probable suicide. In the newspaper in that year editorialized, "Marilyn Monroe died Sunday proving that even $10,000 a week won't even buy peace of mind".

Money, achievement and fame, there has to be more, something which brings a quality life beyond these.

Friend, what's your goal in life? If you reach it, without God, there will always be an emptiness which will never completely satisfy. There is a place in the human heart which is God can only fill, and nothing short of a relationship with Him will satisfy. Life will be better and not so hard if we put God in our life.

"Advent is concerned with that very connection between memory and hope which is so necessary to man. Advent’s intention is to awaken the most profound and basic emotional memory within us, namely, the memory of the God who became a child. This is a healing memory; it brings hope. The purpose of the Church’s year is continually to rehearse her great history of memories, to awaken the heart’s memory so that it can discern the star of hope.…
It is the beautiful task of Advent to awaken in all of us memories of goodness and thus to open doors of hope."
