Isn't that just the case anywhere you go though? Politicians are easily influenced by the people backing their campaigns and lose touch with the electorate. It seems to be happeneing the same way back in the Philippines where Aquino was elected not just because of his name but because he represented a grassroots effort of the people to get away from rule by the Illustrados. Now though he seems to be paralyzed with uncertaincy over where to go next or what to do and in essence has become part of the problem by taking advice from bad people.
It doesn't matter where you are in the world, the power to govern comes from the people. The citizens of Egypt and Libya certainly realize this and in their roar for reform I see the power of freedom at work.
