Go, Go, Grow! With The Gardenieres

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of for . All opinions are 100% mine.
(1) Miracle-Gro
I don't have alot of time to devote to yardwork but since it's Florida if I don't make time everything will get out of hand quickly... i.e. weeds as tall as the house and all my carefully planted flowers coming to a dried out ruin.  It's a good thing that there's miracle grow to help me with my fall planting needs.
This Gardenieres video helped insipre me in my path to a newer garden.  What inspiration did it give you may ask?  Don't plant invasive plants no matter how pretty they may look in the spring.  No really, I'm serious, my apologies to miracle grow but I don't find myself with unlimited time to my hands to hang out of windows trimming the wisteria or shaping the verge.  What miracle grow can help me with is maintaining a stress free garden of plants that need little to no attention save watering.  Miracle grow garden soil provides just the right base for my plants to grow strong healthy roots and lovely blooms.  With the application of some liquafeed they can attain truly gorgeous proportions and have the neighbors turning their heads in awe.  With one days work and miracle grow I can turn the bare patch at the front of the house into a fall display of color.
Need more ideas for your fall garden? Be sure to like the Miracle-Gro Facebook page to keep up with all the news, ideas for your garden and new gardening products from Miracle Grow and the Gardenieres.

Affordable Health Insurance

A lot of people is not happy with the Supreme Court upholding the Obamacare  "known as The Affordable Care Act" right now, and that includes my husband and me, though I still have to learn about the laws over here in the states, and I heard a lot about Obamacare and the only thing that I know that is just another way to tax people and that is not optional.  So what is Obamacare?  From Wikipedia:  Obamacare is The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA), is a United State federal statue signed into law by President Barack Obama on march 23, 2010. Obamacare requires adults not covered by employer- or government-sponsored insurance plans to maintain minimal essential health insurance coverage or pay a penalty, a provision commonly referred to as the individual mandate. The Act also affects certain aspects of the private health insurance industry and public health insurance programs, requires insurance coverage of pre-existing conditions, and seeks to extend coverage to 30 million uninsured Americans. The Congressional Budget Office projected it will both lower future deficits and Medicare spending. And this is including us, me and my husband doesn't have health insurance yet, so from what I understand Obamacare is not optional, its like their forcing people to do it.  But a lot of people that thinks that it is right, so how about you what do you think?

Anyhow I'm not here to talk about dirty politics, I'm here to talk about health insurance, that it is so hard if you don't have insurance.  When my glasses broke we didn't have a choice but to buy a new one.  But in order to get a new eye glasses I have to go through eye exam first, which is not cheap, so we bite the bullet and did go to the eye doctor and did it all without any insurance.  We end up paying $537 for my new eyeglasses including the eye exam, my frame is not cheap because I am near sighted and I believe my left eye has astigmatism.  But I like my new eyeglasses, I think its worth it.  I just hope we can afford to have a health insurance soon or my husband can find a full time job that offers a free insurance.  I was searching online about affordable health insurance, and one thing I found out that before you can even have insurance they will have to do a health check on you, especially if its a life insurance you're talking about. So a lot of people right now is looking for affordable health insurance, well good luck to them.

My first birthday in the US!

My husband's Filipino style spaghetti
Yesterday was my 32nd birthday, and yes it was my first birthday here in the US.  At first we were planning to cooked a lot of food but then we realized we didn't have any visitors, its a good thing my mother in law showed up for the dessert even though it was raining so hard yesterday.  My husband ask me what do I want for him to cook for my birthday, I told him I want some Filipino dishes, so he go and went shop for the ingredients while I clean the house.  My husband ended up making Filipino style spaghetti, Lumpia (egg rolls), fried chicken and also baked my birthday cake.  I help him with doing the prep and I cooked the main ingredients for the lumpia so that its ready for wrapping.  I was frustrated because I got the wrong wrapper, which was the Vietnamese egg roll wrapper, but its a good thing its turn out good when we start to fry it.

simple birthday dinner
It was a tiring day because of all the preparations and cooking that we do (husband did a lot of cooking, I just help him), and all of a sudden we got a call back about an apartment that we saw online and we have to break and go take a look at it.  It was located in downtown so its an hour drive back and forth.  Anyhow we did have fun celebrating my birthday, although I wish my family (in the Philippines) was here with me, I bet they will really enjoy all the foods my husband cooked.  The spaghetti was good also, my husband did it really like its a filipino style, he did bought a quezo de bola and it really taste good, and he also put some hotdogs hehe, I loved it!
My birthday cake Butterscotch cake with Butterscotch Icing

A toast for more birthdays to come!
Finally it was time to blow the candle, so they gather up for me my husband, father in law and my step mother in law to sing  me  a happy birthday, I was so touched because they sing it form their hearts the only missing is my family in the Philippines and my birthday would be complete.  I got a birthday greeting card from Cathy my mother in law, she was so sweet she inserted some cash also.  If not for my husband effort's to cook even though he still have to work early the next day, my birthday will not be possible.  I am very thankful to God for another year of my life, thank You Lord God for all the blessings and guidance, thank you for giving me such a wonderful husband like my husband.  Thank you for my new family here in the US they are a blessing for me and my husband.  Thank you for giving me a loving family who always supports me and always think of me even though we are thousand of miles away from each other, I could still feel their love and prayers for me.  All in all I enjoyed my birthday and hopefully this Christmas we will celebrate it in our new apartment.

Baby Sling

A lot of my friends are pregnant right now,  the one friend that I actually meet last year, we were together for our flight on the way over here, she is due to give birth this last week of October.  I am so excited for her, and of course she is very thankful to God that her pregnancy is healthy and she had no major problems.  Because before she had a miscarriage when she was still in the Philippines and I know how hard and painful it was for her.  But now she's just waiting for a few more weeks and she's gonna have their bundle of joy.  I saw on her Facebook that she just had a baby shower, and she had a lot of gifts from her friends.  I was gonna give her baby ring sling but we both so busy.  Maybe next time she will get pregnant again I will definitely make it sure to send her some baby gifts.

Invest in Gold and Silver Coins

Gold and Silver Fever | GreatSouthernCoins.com

Today the US is experiencing economic problems, with  a lot of people are unemployed or underemployed (which means they have a job that can't pay their bills).  I've seen a lot of people giving up living over here, because they feel like they can't afford to live the American lifestyle anymore.  I don't blame them, I learn a lot from my 8 months of living here in the US, it is very expensive, you really have to have a full time job for you to survive and enjoy your life.  I can understand why my aunt and her family decided to leaved the USA for good and moved in the Philippines.  My aunt and her family was living in Wisconsin for 15 years but her husband feels that its cheaper to live in the Philippines, which is very true.  But the downside of it especially if you are a foreigner, its hard to find a decent job.  So her husband started to invest on gold and silver, when I was still in the Philippines, they showed me what gold bullion coins looks like.  And from that day I said to myself we should start to invest in gold and silver coins too,nnd my husband agrees with me.  We just have to work hard to be able to start to invest and maybe we can have peace of mind that we can still afford to retire when where too old to work.

It's Football Season Again!

Its September and its Football time again here in America.  The National Football League regular season begins the weekend after Labor day and ends in December.  Each team plays 16 games a17 week period, each week's games are played on Sunday afternoon with weekly games on Sunday night and Monday night and occasional games on Thursday night and Saturday night.  Here's a little bit of history for you, there's two kinds of football that they used to play back in the 19th century, which is rugby football and association football.  Both these games have their origin in varieties of football played in Britain.  It was Walter Camp the father  of American football  who instituted and changed the rule of football.  The popularity of college football grew as it became the dominant version of the sport in the United States for the first half of the 20th century.  Its not until in the 1920's when the American Professional Football Association was formed and after 2 years they change its name to the National Football League (NFL) and eventually became the major league of American football.

We also played football in the Philippines, but the way we play its very different, as far as I remeber playing it when I was young we kicked the ball at a goal and run over a line.  Even though I'm not a big fan of football due to the obvious reason that I don't know how to watch it and how it was played.  I just like watching it sometimes because of Tim Tebow.  Anyhow my father in law and my husband loves football, they are a  big fan of gators of course.  Though I think gators suck sometimes, they never seem to win the games.  Well the other day they win against the Minnesota Vikings.  My husband actually won a bet against his co worker for 50 bucks.  A lot of people are doing the NFL Betting, especially with the gators winning the last time they played.  I can only wish I know how this game being played so that I can start betting too.  Maybe if its basketball then I can say I am a pro, because basketball is a famous game in our country and beside I used to do the scoring in our sub-div everytime we have a fiesta.  So I know how they play it and I can really say that I am good at watching it.  Well I gotta go now my husband is calling me to watch football, I think the gators are playing tonight, I can hear them cheering.

Blogger's Choice

My husband just join the Blogger Idol contest, and unfortunately his blog was not chosen to be one of the bloggers choice.  Blogger Idol is a contest like the American Idol, to see whose gonna be the famous blog.  They got a scoring system in place that is not a popularity contest, they will judge your blog by: likeability, appearance, appeal of the public, and many more.  The prizes are of course free exposure of your blog, the chance to meet new people, networking and the chance to stretch your writing skill and become a better blogger.

We were a little bit dissapointed, when we find out his blog The Vintage Recipe, didn't win.  I was really expecting he could make it to the top 12 because his blog is unique from the other blog, he tackles vintage recipe and food.  So anyhow, how do make sure that our blog is appealing to the public?  Of course we have to right good quality content, I think my husband's blog got that.  His got a lot of followers too, not to mention his Facebook page has 1,600 plus likers now.  And he got a lot of pageviews compare to my blog. But I think because he was gone for 3 months to work in Alaska, so he didn't able to update his blog while he was there plus he just got a job so he didn't have time to write as much as he want.  I think that's one of the reason maybe the judges thought that his not updating his blog on a daily basis.   Anyhow my husband's was not discourage he still want to try and join next year and hoping he will get the coveted bloggers choice award.

I'm Back Folks

It has been a long time since I updated this blog,  I was quite busy working and spending time with my husband (he just return from working in Alaska) and at the same time we are also trying to find an apartment or a house for rent.  But I promise myself that I have to write an article at least like three times a week.  So hopefully I will stick to that :). Anyhow my husband finally got a full time job (Yey!), we were so thankful that after how many years of trying to find a job over here in Jacksonville, God finally answered our prayers and he is now working as a produce clerk in one of the retail store over here.  After all, the economy is still thriving but fighting, so its still possible you can get a full time job.   The downside of it is now that his working and I'm working also, our time is limited and we don't have a lot of free time anymore.  So if we both have a rest day together we really make it a point that we spend quality time.

My husband fresh from AK.
I'm gonna miss spending time with my husband, now that his working almost everyday.
I have a lot of things that I'm thankful of, first my husband's new job, second my brother who is in the Philippines finally got a job, he is working as kitchen crew in one of the fast food restaurant.  My sister is still works in the same company that shes been working for almost a year now.  My parents are good and healthy and of course my loving nephew Gabriell is doing good in school, he just got chosen as one of the participants in a quiz bee contest.  I am so proud of him, me and my husband both.  I feel like I'm not worth for all this blessings that God has showered us, because I didn't go to church for a long time now (like 3 months) and sometimes I can't even pray the rosary because I was too tired from work.  I know God is just there waiting for me to have time with Him.  Thank You God for all the blessings and guidance, we owe it all to You.

Cajun Linguine
Fresh oyster

Anyhow we take a day off together last month, and we had dinner at the one of the best seafood restaurant over here in Jacksonville. This is my third time eating at this restaurant, so far this is my favorite restaurant, I had tried their poached mussels, Cajun Linguine and gumbo, I also have a taste of there asian tuna.  My husband had buffalo wings, and it was the best, it was really delicious.  My father in law got his all time favorite raw oyster.

Spanish Weather

It seems like currently there is a proliferation of weather sites on the internet, indeed it seems as if I could find a weather site just for my neighborhood.  However, as with most things in life, quantity does not translate into quality.  So what does one look for in a weather site to gauge the quality?  First it must be weather centric and not another arm of the news agencies.  Second it has to have quality forecasts, and third it can specialize in the weather of a specific area or country.

It is in my opinion then that Spanish Weather meets these 3 criteria effectively.   We have quite a few cruise ships that leave from Jacksonville and go trans-atlantic to Spain every week so it would be a great site to visit to see what the weather would be like for the duration of your trip.  Their site is designed to be user friendly with a menu with links to the weather in all the major Spanish cities and resort areas, including the British Crown Colony of Gibraltar.

I would like to take a trip to Spain next year since after all, Spain is the mother country of the Philippines, having owned it as a colony for over 400 years.  I do know that when I take my trip, I'll be using Spanish Weather to see if the weather will be nice and sunny for my trip.

Apartment Hunting Tales

We're going to be moving into an apartment soon since we have given up on the search for a house.  Nothing really strikes our fancy right now and at any rate we don't have enough money for a down payment.  Apartment hunting can be quite a chore though as we have been driving back and forth from where we live now to Riverside/Avondale downtown to look at places.  Every one we have looked at lately has been not our type of place and one place just smelled bad (old musty).  Also the cr is always in need of some bathroom accessories.  It's really horrible how the landlords of these places just don't take care of them as they should.  Windows that won't open, smells old or musty, bathrooms that are as bad as indoor outhouses, gosh it's so tiring to keep driving downtown to be dissapointed.  Well my husband was looking at another place today in Avondale, unfortunately I couldn't go because I have to work and my father in law will drive me to work so he can't go either.  I hope it's a good place though.

Fill Your Interior Space With Havertys

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of Havertys Furniture . All opinions are 100% mine.
When I got the opportunity to write about Havertys I was excited because this is a furniture store that I drive by almost all the time.  I have a location that is just down the road from me on Atlantic Blvd and I was always curious how they stacked up with the competition.  So I delved into their website and let me tell you it's easy at Havertys: Discover Something You love.  They have these interior design classes called Inspiration sessions where you can learn how best to arrange your home into something you love.  This is great because I'm moving into a new house soon and I'd like to be able to take the opportunity to learn something more about interior design.  On Sept 15th they have a class on how to design an entertainment space, so important with football season around the corner.
https://mail-attachment.googleusercontent.com/attachment/u/0/?ui=2&ik=592284a694&view=att&th=13979a13924bf68b&attid=0.2&disp=inline&realattid=35cf65235f7617f6_0.2&safe=1&zw&saduie=AG9B_P9997VDuHA86dypyiRu5sPc&sadet=1346773806545&sads=KglQb1twuKA7r5fvZlew9
Perhaps I can talk my wife into making the living room a man cave.  Their next sessions are on Oct 13th about how to design a room around the seasons, in a session on Nov 10th they will focus on a winter color palette and finally on Dec 1st they will teach you about the all important finishing touches that make any room complete.  I admit, I'm a Luddite when it comes to room design.  A few chairs a TV table and side tables and voila I'm done.  This admittedly does not complete the picture and certainly doesn't make the best use of space.  So it's time to expand my horizons and learn how to turn the ordinary into extraordinary.
If you want more inspiration for rooms then you can follow Havertys on Facebook or Pinterest.

The Importance of Customer Retention

When my wife and I lived in the Philippines we owned a small store selling dry goods and vegetables.  We built that store from the ground up and after opening we did our best to attract new customers and grow our business.  One thing that all of this taught me is the importance of customer retention.  It is ofttimes said that it takes more effort to attract a new customer than it does to retain a loyal one.  This is true in both time and money spent and such loyalty has it's own rewards as a loyal customer will be the best advertising you can get.  You don't have to pay for such advertising as a loyal customer will pass along their good experience at your store by word of mouth.

Now our store was a small scale operation, for larger operations it is important to have customer retention programs  such as those offered by Kobie.com.  Kobie is well known in the arena of loyalty programs and has many of the biggest names in business as their clients.  They will be able to custom fit a loyalty rewards program to fit your business' needs so that you can concentrate on keeping your customers coming back again and again.  If advertising your business is a large part of your budget, then you should consider setting aside some of that for retaining the customers you already have.  In this economy it is important to keep your customers so that you can continue to drive sales.

The market is bad right now, we all know this so now is the time to start offering incentives to keep your customers coming back again and again.  A properly tailored customer loyalty program will do just that, offering a real incentive for the customer to shop with you again.  Furthermore, that customer will express by word of mouth, their happiness at your loyalty program to their friends, potentially driving more business to your doors than could be accomplished with advertising alone.  Everyone is looking for more "bang for their buck" these days and a loyalty program offered by Kobie will do just that for your customers.

Fish Tacos

The other night we had Fish Tacos & Homemade flour Tortillas for dinner.  I have found I love Mexican food especially mexican cheese and anything spicy.  I haven't really had a chance to talk to you about all the ways I'm trying to save money, but cutting coupons is one of them.  I had a coupon for the Sargento Mexican Cheese which is why we use it with the Fish Tacos.  Sargento is a great company and has a good quality product that I can recommend.  One thing I am learning about being in the states is that cheap products mean cheap ingredients and an inferior product.  I know my husband has been telling me this for years but I'm only now beginning to listen.  You know how Filipinos are, always buy the cheapest thing and when it breaks get another.

A History of Weddings

A Brief History of Weddings | Moissanite.com

I remember our wedding 5 years ago.  It could have been a complete disaster but for the perseverance and fortitude of my fiancee.  See, we were getting married in the Philippines which is a horse of a different color compared to getting married in the US.  It took us some time to find a hall to do the reception and food and because we had a Catholic wedding there was all the requirements to be met for the church.  In the end everything came together for a most memorable day that marked the beginning of a journey together for the rest of our lives.

The Other Side of the Equation

It's not too often you get to hear from the husband on this blog anymore.  If you remember, I used to write the articles about the vintage ads, but I have my own blog now where I do most of my writing.  Over the summer I worked in Alaska as I have been doing for the past 5 years now but with one major difference, my wife was in the states this time unlike before when she was in the Philippines with her family.  Originally she was supposed to come up to Alaska and work in the same cannery as I do, but she got her job at Marshall's earlier this year and after talking it over we decided it was best for her to just stay in Florida while I went to work.

Plan of Moving

Sorry if I did not post any article lately, its because my husband just arrived from working in Alaska.  Yes finally were back in each other arms again.  It feels so good to be with my husband and not to worry that we will be apart again, well not until next salmon season.  Anyhow my husband said that they did not have a good season this year, there's not a lot of fish this time compare last year.  But we are still so thankful to God, at least my husband job is still stable though its a seasonal, its a big help for us.  In my last article I mention about us buying a house, but I think its not a good time for us now to buy a house yet.  Last May we did look a house in Panama Park, and where just waiting till August come so we can gather the deposit but the house is already off the market, we are really frustrated because we really like that house so much.  So we are planning to just rent an apartment first for a year or so, in that way we have ample time to prepare collecting things that we need before moving to a house, like furniture and stuff.  We are looking to move in Riverside (downtown Jacksonville), its a very desirable place to live.

My husband always check Craigslist everyday to see if there's a new apartment that we're gonna like and so he found this one bedroom apartment in Riverside at $595/mo., this is a good price for an apartment, we did go and we see the apartment yesterday, and indeed the place is very nice and clean, the houses over there are like Spanish houses it reminds me of the houses of the rich people in the Philippines.  The only problem I see is the apartment is kinda old so it needs a little TLC, especially the windows.  Its a good thing I found out about this ICF, I get a lot of ideas how to repair some damage of the apartment that me and my husband can do by ourselves, so that we don't have to hire anyone to do it and spend a fortune.

Online Budget Tools

I recently joined a Facebook group couponers,  I was happy to be a part of this group, and excited to learn more about couponing.   I was curious how they got their stuff almost free, and I found out its because they used coupon every time they shop.  Basically they buy Sunday newspaper and that's how they get their coupons and there's also an insert like a catalog from kohls, red plum, smart source where you can find more savings and deals.  I am just starting to do this stuff and I still not that good with it.  Coupons are a big help especially if you live here in the states, because everything is expensive over here.  Even though I am starting to use coupons everytime I shop, I still have to watch my budget, for example my budget for food is $50 per week (just me) and for my shopping (clothes, shoes etc) is $100/ month, but I must admit I took advantage of the no tax last week and spend almost $300 in just one week.  It is so hard to stick to a budget , I know I suck when it comes to budgeting.
So happy I stick with my budget LOL

I really need a budget tools, its a good thing I found this budgeting software online.  Its a handy little accounting tool like mint but good for consolidation of finances and accounting services for small business.  If you need an online budgeting tools or bookkeeping software this tools is perfect for you.  These are the two important things that I learned when it comes to budgeting, use coupons when you shop and having an online budget software so I don't get scolded again by my husband if I get over budget with my shopping. I'm really glad I know how to budget our money now, with the help of this stuff.  How about you?  Do you have some budgeting tips?

My Ube (Purple Yam) Ice Cream Craving

I've been craving for ice cream for the past days, but I want a different flavor, this time I wanted some ube (purple yam) ice cream that only I can find in my home country.  I love their ice cream over here too don't get me wrong, but sometimes its just too sweet for me, and though they have a lot of varieties and flavors nothing beats the Ice Cream made from my country.  Anyhow these are my favorite flavor over here: buttermilk pecan, mint, peach cobbler, vanilla and of course chocolate.  Despite the fact that I love the ice cream over here, I still crave ice cream that made from the Philippines.  Its a good thing I found one and I was amazed they have it over here, Magnolia Ube ice cream, I know this is so hard to find even in other Asian Market you can't find this one.  I am lucky we are surrounded by a lot of Filipino/Asian Market here in Jacksonville so I can still buy some Filipino food (yes we have like a carenderia/market here) and Filipino products.  There's just one thing that I can't seem to find and its a "tabo" (deeper) lol, I really wanted to buy one, although we don't used bucket bath over here, I still miss having a tabo, I hope I can find one soon.
My $10 ube ice cream lol

Anyhow I was so happy I found me some Ube Ice Cream, albeit its very expensive ($10) I still enjoy it makes me feel that I'm just home away form home. I'm saving some for my husband, hopely he will be here in 2 weeks, if not I dunno if I can resist not eating all of it lol.  Yes my husband is coming home soon, but there's no exact date yet it really depends on his boss, though we know its gonna be soon (maybe 2 weeks more or less) because its the end of the salmon season today, as they stop buying fish already.  I'm really looking forward in my husband's return, I've miss him so much 3 months feels like 3 years for me...
That's all for now, I open tomorrow and will be working for 7 hours, ahhh its a long day again especially I'll be in the salesfloor oh well at least I'm off on Sunday then next week I only work Mon., Tues., and Wednesday.  I can't wait to just lay in my bed all day.  Goodnight peeps, don't forget to pray before going to bed. Have a blessed night you all!!!

I Need a Break

I've been working so hard this past few weeks, this weekend alone I worked16 hours, normally they just give me 4 - 5 1/2 hrs per day because I'm part time. Last week they give me extra hours (28.30) and I'm so happy of course, usually part time in our company is just 15 or less hours.  I know it sucks, plus they keep hiring more people everyday, from what I heard 28 hours is considered full time, and 10- 15 hrs is part time.  Typical retail, they need you to work so hard for the less amount of money they paying you.  I am just lucky that they give me more hours this past few months, I hope they will continue doing it but I doubt it because I see a lot of new faces every week, they are still hiring more people.  This weekend is my cashier training, I'm kinda nervous and scared, though I been a cashier before, this is different because as a cashier they want you to sell the company's rewards/credit card and I'm still not confident with my English.  I am not looking forward to it.

Its a good thing I'm off today and tomorrow but I'll be working on Thursday again for 8 hrs and the rest of the week, its gonna be a long week again for me.  I like it though when they want me to work on the weekends, in that way it keeps me from missing my husband so much and at the same time earning extra bucks.  Finally I can enjoy my rest days, I did my laundry today and clean my bedroom.  While cleaning I play some music, this time my mood is for Oldies Songs, yes I'm kind of sad right now.  Maybe I'm just missing my husband or its homesickness again.  For sure I miss my baby nephew so much,  I really want to hug him and kiss him so bad.

Advantage in Working at Retail

It was a long day at work today, I just got home from working six hours, I was supposed to work till 8 pm only but my manager ask me to stay till close which is 10 pm, which I said yes because I can used the extra cash.  So I tried to send a text message to my father in law (his driving me to work), but he was already there ready to pick me up, so he didn't have a choice but to go back home for the reason that I don't want him to wait for an hour until we closed.  I was really ashamed of what happen, its a good thing my father in law is just a cool guy.  We owe a lot to him, thank God for my father in law.  Anyhow I work in retail, I am on home and domestics department and sometimes they put me to help on the backroom on truck days.  Retail job is not fun, it gets crazy everyday that's why I love working in the backroom doing trucks, though it gets very physical when you're working over there, but I love it because, you get a lot of job done, I mean variety of job like: lay outing clothes, hanging and put tags on the clothes and shoes plus you get to see the merchandise first before it is out on the salesfloor, that's the only advantage if you work at retail.  Oh we also get 10% associate discounts and 20 % every quarter.  Thus I love my job, oh I found a cute blouse that I'm planning to buy tomorrow, its very cute I love the design though when I check the ticket it says Maternity Tops, oh well I think I really have to start losing some weight, I don't want to wear maternity tops when I'm not pregnant hahha.

Summer Heat

My new Michael Kors shade I love it!
Phew! Its so hot today, I feel like I'm in the Philippines, its 97 F right now. Its not just hot here in Jacksonville, it also gets very humid even in the morning and sometimes we had some downpour too.  My father in law says this is a typical summer time in Florida, it gets hot and very humid with a little bit of rain showers.  Anyhow when I'm still in my home country, I never like to wear shades even though its also so hot the whole year over there, of course its the tropics, its because I'm too embarrassed with my big nose lol.  But since I got here, I started wearing shades because its to hot and my eyes tend to get so dry and sensitive when I'm outdoor.  Its also protection for my eyes, so I don't care if I don't look good wearing shades.
My new shades

Two weeks ago I just bought a Michael Kors Shades, for only $25 in Stein Mart.  I know its a high-end brand, but I'm not sure if this is just a replica or not, all I know is that I love wearing it and it is definitely good quality than my old shades that I bought for $10 in Marshalls.  I know its cheap so the quality is cheap also.  My husband always tells me, "if you buy cheap you get cheap"lol.  My next plan is to buy a new michael kors watch for me, hence my old wristwatch needs to be replace, its still doing its job but the strap is broken and for whatever reason I can't find a replacement over here.  So that why I thought maybe I need to buy a new one.  Yay tomorrow is payday Friday again!  Happy weekend everybody!!

Small Business but Big Taxes!

When we were still living in the Philippines, we had a sari-sari store (convenience store) as our small business.  We open the store in February 21 of 2008, it was doing really well for the first two years, I was so happy with the outcome of my small business.  If I remember correctly we spend 100,000 (pesos) for the capital of the store not including the expenses of building the store.  Anyhow my sales everyday could get up to $115 or 5,000 pesos and that's a lot of money in my country.  My sari sari store sells basic commodities at low cost, I also sell rice, canned goods, milk formula, drinks and cigarette. I loved that store and I miss having a small business like I had. Having your own mini grocery business can be fun and profitable but there is also some disadvantages,  albeit I consider it  sari-sari store, my store was big and bigger from all the stores in the neighborhood so of course all the people their was so jealous, they think that I earned a lot from having a business like that.  Well true I earn some, but I'm also paying the taxes because we want our business to be legal.  Unlike the other store in our neighbor that I know of, they did not registered their business and I don't know how they manage to do that until right now with out getting caught.  Oh well its their karma not mine.

Anyhow, I did not regret having that store,it serves its purpose and it help us a lot before financially, especially my family in the Philippines.  I only wish I had a Business Lawyers to help with my problem right now.  See I decided to closed that store and declare bankruptcy last November because it was not doing well (thanks to my relatives and other people who never pay their debts) and also my visa petition was approved so I was getting ready to leave to be with my husband here in the USA.  Now my problem is the BIR (Bureau of Internal Revenue) is giving me hard time to pay the tax, I tried to return my permit and all the paper works that needs to be done before I fly to the US but I was unsuccessful.  I though it was gonna be easy because I paid my taxes for the whole year, every year and I did not owe any centavo so I was so confident that I would be easy, boy I was wrong!  They want a lot of paperwork's from me, they want to see my monthly sales, and the thing that really frustrates me is they said they have to compute the interest of my tax because I did not pay the monthly tax. For the record they never told me that there's a monthly fee that I needed to pay, the only thing that they said the first day I paid my tax is I only have to pay 500 pesos annually, due to the fact that my store is just ordinary store and I don't even issue receipts.

Fast forward today, my sister just told me that after six months they finally figured it out, and they want me to pay 12,000 pesos before they will clear my name and will finally declare my store as bankrupt.  But where can I get that kind of money, that's almost $300, there's no way I will pay them with that amount!  So I'm in trouble right now, I told my family to go to the mayor over there and try to ask favor, at least lessen the money that I need to pay for the BIR.  I really wish I had a business lawyer to help with my legal problem.  This is why its important for any business, big or small to have an ongoing relationship with a lawyer.  Now wish me luck :<

Happy Anniversary to Us!

My Anniversary card from husband.

Wow I can't believed that its been five years since I married my husband.  It seems like just yesterday I was preparing to walk down the aisle to say "I do".  Yes its our fifth wedding anniversary last Tuesday (July 10), though my husband was not here to celebrate with me, he called me on the phone and we talk for more than an hour that I was late for work lol.  My husband works every summer in Alaska, so his not around every time its our wedding anniversary, I know its sad but its for our future so its okay.  This is the fifth year that my husband was away in our anniversary, but I think this time is the hardest because I am here in the US and I feel so lonely maybe because when I was still in the Philippines I have my family and friends with me so I'm not that sad as compare over here.  Anyhow my husband said we are going to celebrate our anniversary in November 14th; our meeting anniversary, its gonna be our six year since we meet last 2006 in a social site "Myspace".  I told my husband if possible I want to renew our vows too in November, I just hope I brought with me my wedding dress, well maybe its gonna be to small for me now as I gained a lot of weight since then.  I don't wanna wear a plus sized wedding dresses.

Its been 5 years since I wear this rings.

Husband sent me a card and a letter for our anniversary, and everything he said made me cried lol.  My husband is not showy, his a type of guy that doesn't show his emotion, he said Capricorn is like that. And I also send him card with a long letter, he said I touch his heart with my letter and that he can't wait to be in my arms again and so am I.  I really miss him so much, oh well six weeks more to go, and we'll be together again.  And hopely we can move to the house that were planning to buy, that would be the greatest gift for our anniversary.  God bless us...

Anything Vintage

My husbands loves anything vintage, from vintage recipes to vintage cars and vintage furniture, name it, as long as its vintage he loves it.  He even have a blog called "The Vintage Recipe Blog",  when I was still in the Philippines I didn't know anything about vintage.  Anyhow we are so excited to move to the house were planning to buy soon, we're crossing our fingers that it still on the market come August or September when my husband gets back from Alaska.  We have a lot of plan in that house already, it has a big yard so we're thinking of making a pond or a garden.  And my husband want's to repair the old cabinets in the kitchen and make it as vintage kitchen cabinets.  I know we are expecting a lot right now, but dreaming is free lol.  Anyhow we will  see in the fulfillment of time.  I owe everything up to God, all my dreams and aspirations.  Thy will be done oh Lord...

The kitchen cabinets in that house.

Looking Fab This Rainy Season

I love this boot!

It is summer already, but sometimes I can't help but wonder if the summer here in the states is really like this, because here in Jacksonville sometimes its so hot with no breeze at all like today, its very hot and humid but last week we just got drenched by the tropical storm Debbie.  I'm not looking forward for another tropical storm again, I rather be hot and sweaty than to have bands of rain and flooding, though we our lucky because it didn't flood at our place.  Anyhow I was thinking of buying a rain boots, just to be prepare if we get hammered again by another tropical storm, (hopely not knock on wood) I mean it is possible over here in Florida.  In that I search online about rain boots and I found this rain boot style guide, where they have a collection of rain boots for you to choose from.  I like this cute saying I got from the website saying Hunter Wellies are sure to make you stand out on those days where the sky is as grey as the city sidewalk. If you have to go out in the rain, be sure to get a pair here!  Therefore if you are living in Florida be prepare and get your self a rain gear or rain boots, considering we can never predict the weather over here.  I only wish I can afford some of there boots, its not cheap but its good quality and very stylish. Anyhow I need to work hard to be able to afford all of this.

Health Insurance

A lot of people is not happy with the Supreme Court upholding the Obamacare  "known as The Affordable Care Act" right now, and that includes my husband and me, though I still have to learn about the laws over here in the states, all I know is that Obamacare is not good that its another way to tax the people.

So a lot of people right now is looking for a no health check life insurance, well good luck to them.

My new glasses

Convenient Reading

Got a new Nook from my father in-law.

When I was a kid, I like reading especially the books that has illustration, I think all the kids do. But anyhow my late grandmother always tells me to read the newspapers or anything that makes your brain active.  We can't afford to buy books before even though we have books from the school we have to share it with our seatmate because its just limited so I ended up reading some old comics.  When I was in high school I stop reading books or shall I say I'm so lazy to read, not until I meet my husband that I go back to reading again.  My husband is a bookworm, he loves to read in fact we still have a lots of books in the Philippines that we can't bring with us here in the states.

My Nook!

Today in our world, there's a lot of new technologies that makes reading easy and very convenient, like Kindle Fire from Amazon and Nook from Barnes and Nobles.  My father in-law is techie guy,  he got a Nook that he got from Ebay then he bought a new one then he decided to give his old nook to my husband.  We got hook with it, we love it because you can just download thousands of book you want from the internet to your nook.  When my husband left to work in Alaska, he brought with him his nook, that time I was still reading the Twilight series.  But last month I was so surprised because dad (father in-law) got me a new nook so that I won't be bored and I will not waste my time on FB playing games lol.  I was so happy and very thankful to dad, he said that its his gift for our wedding anniversary.  I love my nook, it is black and white so it doesn't strain your eyes, I hope the computers monitors  is like that too so it doesn't hurts your eyes .  Now I'm thinking what to read next, because I'm done reading the Breaking Dawn.  How about you, do you like to read? What are you reading right now?

Bathroom Upgrade

The bathroom in that house that were planning to buy.
We are planning to move to another house as soon as my husband gets back from Alaska, and we found a house already that we've been eying on since May. It is located at the Trout River in downtown Jacksonville, which is twenty four miles away from where we live right now.  I hope and pray that we will get that house and its still in the market until August or mid September when my husband gets back from working in AK.  We already fall in love in that house, the neighborhood is not that bad although I see a couples of blacks hanging around the streets and looks like there not up to no good but as my husbands says that's the chance we take right now.  The inside of the house reminds me of the old Spanish houses in the Philippines, maybe that's why I like that house it has 3 bedrooms, spacious living room and dining room but the kitchen is kinda small and there's just one bathroom.  Although the bathroom has a bathtub but it is next to the toilet bowl because the bathroom doesn't have a lot of space, so I told my husband if we buy that house, the bathroom really needs remodeling or upgrading.  So I start researching online and found bathroom remodeling .  And it gives me a lot of idea already on what to do on our bathroom soon.  In the fulfillment of time we will see... Hope everybody's having a good day, and I will see you again, have to get ready to work and I am gonna closed tonight hmmm. Have a blessed day y'all!
