Thanks, Internet!

The one thing I miss doing when I'm still in the Philippines is watching news on TV.  I am a news junkie, I love watching news.  I like to know whats been going on around the world or what is the latest news about the celebrities or even politics, even though I don't like politics as much; its still good to know what's been happening in the world of politics.  Now that I'm here in the US I so miss watching the news their like TV Patrol and GMA news, and especially my favorite to watch  is our local news in Davao, the TV Patrol Southern Mindanao.  Its good to know of what's been going on, especially with the last earthquake that just happen few weeks ago, I started to get worried, I make it sure that I know the latest news from my home-country.

Its a good thing we are living in very high tech world right now, that you can just do anything in the internet.  You can pay your bills online, you can transfer money online, you can talk to your loved ones across the world online.  You can just almost do everything online, that's the very good part of the Internet, thank God for it!
And that's what I do, I watch news online, I was lucky I found a website or a blog that you can watch news online.  The only disadvantage is its very slow sometimes, well at least I don't have to register to any  pay per download website just to watch the news onlineI am happy everytime I  watch news online because it helps with my homesickness, its a very big help for a new immigrant like me that is only my way of knowing what is the latest news in the Philippines. You can check this link  Watch TV Patrol online.

Cleaning Is Not Easy

Yesterday we are so busy cleaning the house, In preparation for our visitor this weekend.  I was assign to clean the living room and the kitchen, so I start sweeping in the kitchen first and then after sweeping I  start mopping the floor. I started cleaning in the morning and I was done after noon.  While my  husband was cleaning the bathroom and the cat litter, which I like because I really don't like cleaning the cat litter heheh.  I rather do all the house chores and all that, than cleaning the cat litter.  I mean because in the Philippines, our cat is an outside cat not indoor so we don't need a cat litter and where not used to cleaning cat's waste.  I do love cats though, I am a pet lover even when I was a kid, I used to have a lot of cats and dogs so don't get me wrong if I don't want cat litter in the house lol.
My husband is planning to cook lasagna for our dinner this weekend, and he is going to make Tiramisu for dessert.  I am kinda excited for the dessert, its been a long time since I had tiramisu.

The only thing that's giving me hard time when I'm cleaning is when I have to reach areas that I can't reach because I'm too short, like the cabinets where they put all the baking utensils.  I have to used a ladder or when I'm in the Philippines I always used a stool.  Its a good thing my father has a  metal step stool.   It is really a big help for people like me who is just 5'0 tall.  Okay enough of my ranting, I hope you have a good weekend everybody!

Another FB Games

In my last post the other day I tackled about going to the Ash Wednesday mass.  We did go to the church in Assumption Church in downtown Jacksonville, but when we arrived there the mass has already started and they are done with the alms giving.  I was really sad and frustrated, because the mass started earlier than supposed to be, in the church website it says the mass will start on 7:30 am, but then they changed it to 7:15 am and the mass just took  30 minutes and its done, unlike the regular mass that will take an hour.  My husband said they do that here so the people can still go to their work after the mass. I was thinking its different in the Philippines, the mass is still a whole mass even though its an Ash Wednesday mass.  Oh well I should start to teach myself  not to compare things here in the US and in the Philippines.   So what I do while I'm in the church is I just stick a candle and offer a small prayer, that's the least I can do because we were late for the mass.
Angry Bird with the pig with helmet

My husband was kind of frustrated also because last year he did attend the Ash Wednesday mass.  I was thinking its was my  fault we got there late, because I stay up late again last night  playing games on Facebook again.  But then my husband said its okay its not my fault, because we didn't know its gonna start early this time, though we are sorry because we just waste the gas for nothing.  Oh back to playing games, last year I was got hook on playing games on Facebook, to the point that I will stay late at night just to play games.  It was my only way to get out of my mind that time while waiting for my visa, so I spend my time playing a lot of games, like Farmtown, Farmville, CafeWorld, Pet Society, Mafia Wars and many more.  Then after awhile I got tired of it, until last month I started playing Castleville again, and I got hook again lol. My husband he played also for a short time then he got bored also, but what he is playing right now is the Angry Bird games, I like it also but I had a hard time hitting all the pigs, especially when you get to level that the pigs will wear helmets.  But my husband is good with it, he can easily level up and hit those annoying pigs lol.

How about you? What games do you play in FB? Maybe you can add me in your kingdom if you play Castleville, I need more neighbors :).

Season of Lent

Picture from Ash Wednesday

Tomorrow is the start of the Lenten Season.  Ash Wednesday is the season of preparation for the resurrection of Jesus Christ on Easter Sunday.  In the Philippines we also call it Holy Week, with Palm Sunday, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, Black Saturday and ends on Easter Sunday.  It is our  tradition to attend a mass on Ash Wednesday, and be part of  The Station of the Cross (The Way of The Cross) on the eve of Easter Sunday, though I don't know If they do this stuff here in the states.  That's the thing that I missed when I'm still in the Philippines, the church is just jeepney away, unlike here its very far, because the only catholic church that we attend and we like  is the one in downtown area like 12 miles away, and I'm not sure if they also do The Station of the Cross here like in the Philippines, when you have to wake up 3 in the morning to attend the Way of the Cross by just walking until you reach the church and while you were walking we say all the Mysteries of the Rosary, so its really a sacrifice.  And though its not an obligation hundreds of people will attend, because we feel that Lent is the season for penance and prayers, and that just happen once a year, so we really make a way that we can attend it even though you have to walk  how many kilometers until you reach the church and not to mention the heat of the sun in that day.

As for tomorrow I will definitely attend the mass for Ash Wednesday and have ashes put on my forehead.  Even though I'm a little bit sick right now, I have a runny nose and I have also an upset stomach, maybe its the food that I ate the other day, my husband said its a food allergy called austin allergist.

I wanted to share a Lenten Meditation from my Treasury Novena Book:
Lent is a time of instruction and listening.  Faith comes by hearing, which certainly includes reading and study. It is a time of listening.  The Word of God is given to us in abundance. The Gospels and Lenten Readings are a  rich source of faith, conversion, and turning back to a God Who is already waiting and loving us.  We are asked to make the Word of God  a judgement upon our lives and a means of personal evaluation.
But this will become fruitful only by the grace of God which we receive through Sacraments and prayer, especially through the Sacrifice of the Mass.  Meditation on the Passion of Christ is a favorite means of showing our gratitude to our Lord for having suffered and died for us.  The Way of the Cross should not be considered outdated.  Making a Lenten Novena at least once during Lent will prove very beneficial in deepening our prayer-life.

Clipix - Virtual Organization

My husband tells me that I'm the most disorganized person he knows, especially on the internet.  I surf the internet often and just bookmark anything and everything that catches my eye.  The only problem is I get so many bookmarks it takes hours to organize them all and even to find a particular bookmark that I'm looking for.  All that has changed now that he's introduced me to clipix.
Clipix is a great new way to keep everything you need on the internet neat, organized and right at your fingertips.  The best part is the amazingly useful tool is 100% free to use.  You simply install the Clipix button on your browser's bookmark toolbar and you're off.  Every time you want to bookmark something for later just click the clipix button and an easy interface appears that allows you to specify which category  (called clipboards) you want to put the bookmarked page in.  On your account it's easy to share your bookmarks and even whole clipboards across social media and with your clipix friends.  Here's a video to get you started:
I'm sure like I did, you'll find a amazing amount of things to use clipix for as your surfing the web.  I know my husband uses his for recipes and I use mine to keep track of all the great coupon sites on the web.  What would you use it for?

2. Do you go all out for V-day or is it just another day?
It was our first Valentine's  Day overhere in the states, and my husband surprised me with a date in a Filipino restaurant and a shopping spree to Victoria Secret.  I was really surprised and at the same time very happy.

3. Are you more or less productive when Hubs is away?
Hmm I think no, because i will probably stay in the computer and play games and then the day before my husband comes, that's the time I'm gonna start cramming and try to get stuff done lol.

Happy Hearts Day!

My husband surprised me the other day for a date, at first I didn't know that he's gonna surprise me that is gonna our advance Valentine's date after my class we usually go home but that time my husband said that were going to eat lunch somewhere else, he didn't want to say where were going so I just follow him.  He brought me to Regency Square mall, where the Island Cafe is located.  He knows that I'm craving for Filipino food, and he wanted to surprise me with this Filipino restaurant he found online.  Island Cafe Filipino Cuisine is the name of the restaurant, when I first saw the place I was not really impressed but when I tasted their food, wow it is really delicious.  I felt like I was in the Philippines!  We ordered a combo meal  which is fried rice, chicken adobo and beef egg rolls for my husband, while I had fried rice, chicken curry and veggie egg rolls (lumpia). We really had fun having our lunch at that Filipino restaurant, its not crowded and its very affordable, we only pay $13 for everything included our drinks.  They served halo-halo also for $6, but too bad I don't have a  space for it anymore because we were so full, we did not even finish our food.  Next time when we're craving for Filipino foods again, we know where  to go.  We even have a plan what to order next time we go there to eat, my husband wants pancit canton and longanisa and halo-halo for dessert while me I want to have the daing na bangus (smoked milk fish) and steam white rice, because I really miss eating white rice.  Here in the house, we only eat brown rice, so for the past 3 months that I've been here I only eat brown rice, how fun is that.

After our lunch date, I thought we are going home and call it a day but my husband said we're not done yet, he brought me to the Victoria Secret store. It was my first time to be in that store, I was amazed with all the stuff they have, lingerie's, perfume and colognes, lotions and make up.  My husband decided to give  me a lingerie package, though I was having a hard time choosing which one I want, because its so hard to decide I like all of them hehehe.  He said it his advanced valentines gift for me.  I was very happy!  They also give me a coupon good until the end of this month. If my husband will drag me again over there I would love to try their  perfumes and lotions I know there all smell good but not cheap though.

I still don't know what to give for my husband this Valentines, he doesn't like cards.  I'm really having a hard time thinking what to give my husband, especially that I don't have a job yet my option is limited heheh.  My budget for my gift for him is only $10 hahah I know I'm so cheap.  So anyone who can suggest what is the best Valentines gift for my husband that is worth $10?  I would love your suggestion.

Its my first winter right now, I think the same when I'm still in
   the Philippines, every two weeks.

2. Valentine's Day cards for your spouse: funny or romantic?
For me I think its romantic, but for my husband he thinks its

if I have a job then I would go to the parlor but maybe just once a
     year hahah!

5. Does your tax return go into savings or do you spend it instantly?
I don't have tax return, but my husband has, and we plan to pay our debts,

Another Earthquake Hit the Philippines

On  February 6th at 11 am Philippine time, a 6.9 magnitude quake hit the Visayas region in the Philippines. The affected areas are Negros Oriental, Cebu and Northern Mindanao.  I was so worried when I heard about this news, because my family is in the Philippines but thank God  Davao is not affected by the quake.  As I was watching the news online that time, I was really teary eyed when I saw all the damages of the quake, the people are praying, the kids are crying, they are very scared, especially when they announced there is a tsunami warning but the Phil Vocs lifted the warning after 2 hours.  There are 1000 aftershocks already, in Negros part were in the epicenter of the quake was.
At least 43 people were killed and not included the victims of the landslide, where 10 or more houses got trapped.  There was  a girl who was got buried alive also, before that  she still able to text her family that she needs help fast because she almost out of breath and she could see some  light, too bad it when the rescuer found her shes already not breathing.

It crushed my heart when I saw this news last night, I did not do anything but watch Tv patrol online yesterday just to know the update of the earthquake.  I was secretly crying, I don't want my husband to see me cried, I don't want him to get worry.  I told my husband maybe its really the end of the world, because there is a lot of calamities that hit the Philippines not just in  my country but worldwide, there's war everywhere. Well I rather say its the end of humanity not the world.  I remember when I was young, that time I experienced the worst earthquake, from what I remember it is also 6.8 strong but  there is no serious damages and fortunately no one got killed by that quake. But then I forgot where is the epicenter of the earthquake maybe it is very far from Davao City.  Or we just got luck that time, God only knows.

I pray to God, that He will protect all the people their in the Philippines from all calamities and dangers that's is happening and I hope there is no more calamities that will come in the future.  As a catholic I think that its a wake up call for us, maybe sometimes we forget to thank God or we just pray or go to church  if we need something from Him. Let's offer our prayers for all the people who got affected by the devastating earthquake.

Believers in Jacksonville

Believers in Jacksonville was a civic group that was trying, after the land boom had fizzled out, to recapture some of the commerce that had flowed through Jacksonville.  Since before the American Civil War, Jacksonville had been the gateway to Florida, a title that is equally applicable today even though the city council seems to be doing their level best to keep the tumbleweed business alive downtown.  The fact is Jacksonville is a major rail hub in addition to being a major port.  The availability of rail makes our port more enticing to overseas shippers and the goods flow, everything from oranges to a turnbuckle, it passes through Jacksonville.  Currently the country of Panama is in the process of widening the Panama Canal.  When it is finished in 2013-2014 the world's largest containerized cargo ships will be able to shave weeks off of their sailing time by going through the canal rather than around the Cape of Good Hope.  If the city would get a clue, especially the Port Authority, they would be making preparations to capture the sudden swell in cargo coming through the canal, especially since we have 3 major railroads that come into town.  Railroads that would be able to deliver goods from ships in the port to all corners of the USA and Canada.  It's time for the city council to become a "believer in Jacksonville" and take the necessary steps to ensure our city's health for the future... before it's too late.
