Bye Bye Rain

Its been already pretty hot again here in Jacksonville, to think that a tropical storm "Debbie" had hit us and leave a lot of cities in Florida flooded.  Were pretty lucky were not affected by the flood  but unfortunately it did flood in Jax beach where I work though, to the point that the bathroom got stuck up and flooded the store, it was a pretty mess but its okay now and back to business again.  Anyhow two weeks ago, we had a visitor from New Jersey, he is the best friend of my father in law.  He is a very cool guy, like's to joke a lot.  I think my father in law was having a good time with him, as what he said they did not see each other for many years so the result was a never ending talking in our porch with a scotch and a lot of laugh.  Its just too bad my husband is not here to meet this guy, he is also his Godfather.  This guy is very funny, I think he acts and jokes like a Filipino its weird but his a cool guy.  He likes to play golf too, that's his past time hobby.  He even mention that he has a gps golf, how cool is that.  Anyway he is moving to Palm Beach so its not that far from here, maybe we can visit him when my husband comes back from Alaska.

Another Tropical Storm Hit US Again

Debbie's damage in the west side. (picture not mine)
For the last two days, it rained like you will not believe over here in Jacksonville, its because we had another tropical storm (Debbie) that hit Florida. It just a month passed since we got hit by the tropical storm Beryl also and now here's another one.  If you ask me which is worse, I think there both dangerous, Beryl brought us few bands of rain with a lot of gusty winds, it was so windy I was so scared the trees are gonna start to fall on our roof because we have a lot of old oaks trees here in our neighborhood  but good thing it did not.  Debbie on the other hand give us a a lot of heavy rains, and it rained non stop for two days, it was flooding in some areas especially in the west side and in the beaches part of Jacksonville.  We did lose the power for a few minutes the other night also, but so far it didn't flood in our place, its unbelievable that it didn't flood here in our neighborhood because we estimated we had fifteen inches of rain, my father in law said its because we sandy soil over here that's why.  I was thinking if this was happening in the Philippines, its gonna be a major flooding and not to mention landslides in the provinces, of course our forest is almost bald over there because of the illegal logging.  While here in the states, they have lots of trees, its kinda weird even though you are in downtown area where there's lot of malls and establishments there is still a lot of trees and nature.  I only hope we can do like this also in the Philippines, so that there's no more flooding.
Flooding in Orange Park (picture not mine)
gator survived lol (Picture not mine)

Anyhow, Debbie was downgraded to a tropical depression last night, and even though its still a little gloomy outside, it stop raining already, thank God for that.  And because of the bands of rain we had for two days now, we even couldn't go outside to get our mail in our outdoor mailboxesWe are just thankful that its not a hurricane, I hope it will never happen over here, though they say if you live in Florida of course its inevitable.  I did not experience any calamities in the Philippines, the worst thing was the flooding last year, and it was because of the canal was full of garbage so the water overflowed to the roads and to our house. I am just happy that I wake up this morning and I can finally see the streets dried and its so nice to see the residential mailboxes in our neighborhood is still standing after the storm. womens motorcycle jackets

Who Doesn't Love Chocolates?

Cacao pods (ripe) Picture not mine.
When I first saw the movie Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, it became my favorite right away, of course because its all about candies and chocolate, it was funny I remember my three year old nephew that time was hook too, he was watching it again and again because he loves sweets too.  But did you know that chocolate was made from cacao beans?  I know a lot of people knows it already but I didn't know that it was made form cacao beans until my husband told me.  Anyhow when I was young I remember my mother had a plant called cacao tree, and the seeds are encased in a colorful pod (cacao beans).  It is like a fruit as far as I remember because we ate it before, when its ripe and its ready to eat, but we save the seeds, crush it and ground it to make it as a "tabliya" or native chocolate its our own version of chocolate but is very pure and strong it has no sugar so its very bitter but the smell is very delicious its really like a pure dark chocolate. We usually used our own version of chocolate when were making porridge, oh it was so delicious, its good to eat "champorado" (as what we call it in the Philippines) when its rainy season, that's what we usually do before, my mother always makes a hot champorado for us siblings every afternoon after school.  These was a memorable moment for me, I will really cherished it.  I don't know if they still have cacao tree in the Philippines, I didn't see any since that time we had one in our backyard, and I think I'm still six years old that time.

My husband is also a chocoholic like me, when was still in the Philippines while my husband was here working (Alaska), he always bought boxes of chocolates to bring with him, and in different kinds of flavors too like dark, very dark, with milk and etc.  No wonder I gain so much weight since I meet him because he always feed me with chocolates.  In fact when he went to visit the Philippines to ask my Father for my hand in marriage, he did give a big box full of chocolates and a Jack Daniel whiskey.  I fall in loved with  that chocolate, it was my first time to try chocolates from Europe, it was a big hit for my family and relatives too.  Now I'm craving for some chocolate and I want the one from Europe again, its a good thing I saw this website  chocolate corporate gift  they have mouth watering choices, I just hope I can afford it though.  From the meantime I will just gonna be patient with the chocolates I can buy at the groceries for right now, but when my husband get back from Alaska, I will definitely ask him to buy some for me..

I Wish I Had A Car

I almost got a second job but they want me to have a drivers license and have my own car, duh that's why I was trying to get a second job so that I can afford to buy my own car in the near future.  Anyway I had a job interview last week, it turns out pretty well, I can feel she likes me (because I'm Filipina maybe) and she was a nice person too I think.  Its too bad it didn't work out because its just very close to where I work right now, anyway she told me if ever I can get my drivers license this year, that shes still willing to hire me.  Right now I'm still trying to have a second job because the company that I work right now doesn't give me a lot of hours anymore, I mean its still something compare to nothing but I wanted to work like eight hours a day so that I can have a nice full pay check every Friday.   This is were I miss working at Kangaroo though the job their is so stressful at least my manager was giving me almost forty hours a week.  Well I didn't regret my decision to quit over there because its just too much for a newbie like me.  My plan is to have my drivers license soon but first thing first is I have to learn how to drive.  I am still nervous of doing it because I don't have any experience in driving, well if you consider driving a bicycle, well I'm good with that.  I really have to bug my husband to teach me how to drive, even though I don't have any idea about the parts of the cars like transmission, steering wheel or v belts everytime my husband is trying to explain to me that I go crazy lol.

Its Officially Summer!

Wow time is so fast, I remember when I arrived here last November it was still winter that time, I couldn't believe how cold it gets over here in Florida until I experience it.  Now that its summer, its getting very hot again its like I'm in the Philippines minus the swampyness (humid).  It gets humid here too don't get me wrong  but thank God not like in my country.  I just wish my husband is here with me so that we could go to the beach and have fun.  Oh well my father in law said he will take me to the beach soon, we were planning it the other day but end up canceling it because his old time friend is coming to visit us from New Jersey.  I remember when we were young, me and my siblings usually go to my grandmother's house and play in her big backyard with a swing on a tree.  That is a priceless memory I will never forget until I get old, I so loved that house too bad its gone now.  Anyway I wish I can buy a swing or hammock over here that would be nice, to relax on a swing after a tired days of work.  I saw one online swing sets richmond va maybe I will wait till we have our own house.

Miss Talking To My Family

It has been a long time since I call my family in the Philippines, though we send text messages from time to time its still feels good to hear their voices and laughs.  I really miss them, especially my five years old nephew if only I can afford to call them everyday it would be so good. Anyhow I used Skype to call them but its not free because my Mom doesn't have computer yet so I'm calling them in their cellphones.  And Skype is the cheapest I can find to call them, so far I'm happy with it because the connection is clear.  One time I was so frustrated when I was talking to them on skype but they can't hear me, it turns out that I did not plug the mic lol, its because there's a lot of cable here in my husband's computer so I don't know which is for the video or for the microphone duh.   Anyway my next project is to buy my family a computer so that we can just talk everyday and I don't have to do a long distance call every time I want to call them.  But I have to work hard first, hopely I can find a second job that would be great.

Very Proud of Pacquiao

I was so devastated with Pacquiao and Bradley last fight, I know I'm not alone a lot of Filipino in fact all the people around the world are  shocked and dissapointed with the judges decision.  I was really confident that Manny will end up winning, though he didn't do enough damage to his opponent, he throw more good punches than Bradley.  As Pacquiao said "to be honest  I don't think he hurt me with one punch", it was to obvious that something fishy is going on, some says the judges hold grudges against Manny with the gay marriage thing, or Bradley was paying the judges under the table or worse that is already a laid out plan to have Manny Pacquiao lose so that they can have a rematch and of course its money were talking about.  Whatever the reason behind all of this,  Pacquiao remains humble, he didn't even criticized the judges decision he believes its God's plan, that's what I love about Manny his always down to earth person and very humble.  If only I could give Manny a custom engraved plaques put his name on it for being the best and  humble boxer of the world.

I'm Sluggard

The Land of the Rising Sun "Alaska"
Its been almost a month since my husband left for Alaska to work again for the salmon season this year, his been doing this job since 2007, that time we were still living in the Philippines. I remember how hard it was for me before, every time he has to leave me again to work in Alaska for a few months, then where not going to see each other for four months or more. I always have sleepless night that time, you know the feeling when you're so used to seeing your husband and suddenly you just found your self sleeping alone in your bed it was so sad. Now its different in some way because I am already here in the USA though I still miss him so much, I must admit I couldn't sleep well every night I ended up staying late because I just can't fall asleep I don't know why I must be nocturnal now. I thought I'm not going to miss him that bad while his gone because we've been together for seven months now from more than a year of separation, while I'm still in the Philippines waiting for my visa and him in Florida. And not to mention that I have a job now to keep me occupied but that did not keep me from missing my husband I hope August will come so fast, it just  feels like forever for me. I just wish that we can text each other when his there working but its impossible when the cannery that he is working  is in the province of the province (Dillingham) meaning there's no cellphone connection.  However we email each other every day and he calls me on the land-line once a week that's basically our communication, he can't afford to call me every day because it is long distance call from Alaska. Anyhow I will just put in my mind what my husband told me every time I fell bad,  that when he comes back maybe we can finally buy that house that we like in downtown Jacksonville. I really hope we can get that house, it's not a big house but it has a big yard and it has a lot of potential, it's an old house built in 1939 and yes my husband loves old houses. At first when my husband showed the picture of the house I was not really impress but when we take a look at  the house, wow  I did like the house! I feel some connection already, like I was having a déjà vu, it was a weird feeling. So I keep my fingers cross for this house and I pray that God will guide us through buying this house that it is really meant for us. And maybe we can start making a family in that house soon. Okay my bed is calling me, its gonna be a long day again.  See you folks!!toilet seat risers
